Welcome to the new Downtown New Jersey website.
In the first three months of 2008, Downtown NJ has taken an active role on issues affecting business districts in small towns and big cities. A few weeks ago, Commissioner Joseph Doria, NJ Dept. of Community Affairs, spoke to more than 90 members and guests at our new “Issues Forum” series. Comm. Doria, along with Lou Riccio of the Madison Housing Authority, and Stan Slachetka, planner with T & M Associates, answered questions about the proposed new rules for affordable housing – a critically important topic.
DNJ will sponsor other forums throughout the year on topics that are also timely and important to our members. Watch for details about the May 11th Forum.
The website will be revamped allowing members to share vital information about issues and projects
DNJ will publish position papers and a newsletter to keep our members informed
DNJ's alliances with New Jersey Future, Regional Plan Association, NJ Transit, Main Street Program and other organizations will expand opportunities and resources for our members.
Marvin Reed, former Mayor of Princeton, and Karel Littman, Director, Teaneck Economic Development Corp., are chairing the annual conference and awards presentation planned for September 18 in Rahway. The committee is organizing a program and speakers to address the issues facing businesses and business districts in New Jersey. Look for more information about what will be an exceptional conference.
I am very pleased to tell you that DNJ membership continues to grow and diversify with professionals from both the public and private sector. That means when DNJ takes a position on issues it is balanced and respected. Of course, membership levels matter so I hope you will renew your membership in Downtown NJ. I am convinced that you will find the new direction and timely programs informative and useful in your professional capacity.
We know firsthand about budget constraints. With that in mind, DNJ agreed to keep membership dues affordable because it was important to keep you involved.
I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming issues forums and invite you to send us topic suggestions. If you have any questions about your membership category, please call Joseph Steiner, Executive Director. Joe will be happy to assist you in renewing your membership.
Sincerely,
Kathleen Miller Prunty, DNJ President
Director, Cranford Downtown Management Corporation
