Downtown New Jersey (DNJ), a statewide non-profit dedicated to downtown revitalization, seeks a qualified professional to manage the organization. This is a part-time position whose responsibilities and time commitment vary from one month to the next, but averages 800 – 900 hours per year. DNJ is open to filling the position with either a consulting association manager or part-time employee. 

Responsibilities include:

Administration (25%)

  • Board Management, including organization, agenda and materials, minutes of Board, ExComm, and Committee meetings
  • Membership Management – bi-annual membership solicitations, including mailings, follow-ups, collections and acknowledgement, CRM maintenance, and reporting to Board
  • Bookkeeping – accounts payable and receivable, monthly reconciliation and reporting, coordination of annual tax return and CRI filing with accountant 
  • Development – non-dues fundraising activities (sponsorships, grants, etc.)
  • Manage technical assistance requests – either answer directly or redirect to Board member or other appropriate contact 

Communications (15%)

  • Organization (downtownnj.com) and conference (dnjconference.com) website management 
  • Social media management 
  • Press relations, including press releases and interviews
  • Topical articles for relevant periodicals and media (NJ Municipalities Magazine, NJ Spotlight, etc.)
  • Promotional marketing of DNJ programming, educational content, and advocacy initiatives
  • DNJ Newsletter, including content curation, editorial review, posting, and promotion 

Programming (50%)
Planning (content curation, speaker management, venue logistics, etc.), marketing, and execution of DNJ educational and promotional programming 

  • Downtown Management Forum (monthly virtual or in-person collaborative educational sessions) – approx 6/year
  • TOD in Your Downtown Forum (panel discussion hosted jointly w/NJ Transit and NJTOD.org) – 2/year
  • NJ League of Municipalities – coordination of booth logistics, staffing, promotional materials, DNJ session, DNJ reorganization meeting at the conference, and networking, promotion, and policy discussions during formal and informal networking opportunities 
  • NJ Downtown Conference – 1/year in the Fall
  • NJ Downtown Awards – 1/yr (usually @ NJ Downtown Conference)

Policy & Advocacy (10%)

  • Monitor relevant legislative and regulatory initiatives
  • Develop policy statements, white papers, action alerts, social media content, etc.
  • Represent DNJ in policy discussions with allied organizations
  • Testimony before the legislature, policy meetings with administration, agencies, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Organized and detail-oriented with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of managing a small non-profit.
  • Tech savvy with the ability to learn new programs quickly. Proficient with Quickbooks, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Adobe Suite, ZOOM, and WordPress. Familiarity with CRM system management (experience with LGL a plus).

The position is fully remote but requires reimbursable travel for programs, advocacy initiatives, and exhibiting at NJLM Conference. Flexible schedule dependent on meeting deadlines and expectations. Compensation commensurate with experience.
